The Norwegian language requirement can be met in different ways, depending on your educational background.



AIf the Norwegian language requirement is the only entry requirement left for you to meet in order to qualify for admission, you can choose one of the following tests:

•Norwegian (393 hrs, third-year level) from Norwegian upper secondary school: Norwegian (exam) or Norwegian as a second language (exam).

•Test of Norwegian – advanced level, written test, with a minimum score of “pass” (“bestått”) or 450 points (“Test i norsk – høyere nivå, skriftlig”).

•Norwegian for International Students, Level 3: exam for international students at Norwegian universities (“Trinn 3")

•A minimum of 60 Norwegian university credits/ECTS in Norwegian language and social science for international students.

You meet the Norwegian language requirement if you have attended 9 or 10 years of primary and lower secondary school where the language of instruction was Norwegian, and hold a Norwegian Leaving Certificate for lower secondary education.



BIf you are required to complete a year of higher education in order to qualify for admission, there is only one way for you to meet the Norwegian language requirement:

•Norwegian (393 hrs, third-year level) from Norwegian upper secondary school: Norwegian (exam) or Norwegian as a second language (exam).


How do you meet the English language requirement?
AAll applicants can meet the English language requirement by completing one of the following tests:

•English (140 hours) from Norwegian upper secondary school: written and oral exam.

•TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 500 points from TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) or 60 points from TOEFL iBT (internet-based test).

•IELTS (International English Language Testing Service), academic test with a minimum score of 5.0.

•Cambridge ESOL Examinations:
- First Certificate in English
- Certificate in Advanced English
- Certificate of Proficiency in English



TOEFL: In order for your test result to be included in your application, your official TOEFL score report must be sent directly from ETS to the admissions office stated in your online NUCAS application. NUCAS’ TOEFL code (DI code) is 5166.



Cambridge ESOL Examinations: In order for your test result to be included in your application, you must submit your Candidate ID-number and Candidate Secret Number for verification purposes.
